Prayer book and catechism written in Abnaki by the Rev. Franc̦ois Ciquard, missionary to the Abnaki Indians of New Brunswick. An introductory passage and some other parts are in French. Ciquard was sent to New Brunswick by the Rev. John Carroll, Bishop of Baltimore.

Carroll, the first Roman Catholic bishop of the United States and first Archbishop of Baltimore, was born 8 January 1735 in Upper Marlborough, Maryland, to Daniel and Eleanor Carroll. He was educated at Saint Omer's in Flanders as a Jesuit and returned to Maryland in 1774 where he resided until his death in 1815.
